This morning, the CEO and founder of the Hearty Initiative Mr. Ritti virtually spoke to the audience at Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia “DMV” area at the official launching of the organizations event on the theme, “Rescue Women and Teenage girls in South Sudan.

He said we must break the silence and stop being bystanders; it’s time for us to act and do something. Help Fund Emergency outpatient Health clinic center and education scholarship for women’s sustainable development for independence VS dependence. Women’s Health and Education demand and supply are deteriorating and your portion of action and intervention is urgently needed before it’s too late.

The scale of the tragedy of women and teenage girls in south Sudan is overwhelming to comprehend. According to the Eye Radio published on September 6, 2020; South Sudan child marriage has revealed that more than 1,500 teenage girls have been married off or impregnated in South Sudan since April this 2020 during corona virus C-19 pandemic lockdown. In addition, sexual violence resulting from inter tribal conflict/fighting, forced marriage for dowry, raping and kidnapping including preventable death from pregnancy is on the raise, alarming and out of control.

The civil society group launched the report in Juba in which it identified poverty as the main reason some parents force their girls into marriages with the hope of getting dowry. It also attributed the 1,535 cases of child marriages and teenage pregnancies to the closure of schools.

Mr. Ritti pointed out that beyond pandemic COVID-19, women and teenage girls’ social life is deteriorating in South Sudan and should be protected, empowered and elevated to allow 100% equal opportunity of competition with men/boys at all levels of the institutions that elevate VS depriving women.

He highlighted that The comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) of 2005 allows women 25% participation at all levels of initiations of governance whereas the current “Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity” R-ARCSS” promised 35% for women; yet “women face extensive exclusion, massive sexual violence, rape, pregnancies, underage child marriage for dowry and preventive measures that could ensure women’s health, education and security.

The Initiative team and experts’ mechanism on supervising and implementation of critical tasks for women in South Sudan will set out clearly how it will operate in coordination with the existing institutions of the agreement as well as stakeholders to the South Sudan peace process to prioritize and strengthen health and education for women and teenagers in South Sudan.
